Steven R. Feldman, MD, PhD, is professor in the Departments of Dermatology, Pathology, and Social Sciences & Health Policy at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC. He received MD and PhD degrees from Duke University, completed his dermatology residency at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and underwent dermatopathology training at the Medical University of South Carolina.  

Dr Feldman leads the Center for Dermatology Research, a health services research center with the mission of improving the care of patients with skin disease. His chief clinical interest is psoriasis, a chronic physically and psychosocially disabling condition. His passion is to help guide how patients with psoriasis are treated. According to Expertscape, Dr Feldman has been rated among the world's top experts in psoriasis, acne, and dermatology.

In collaboration with other researchers, he has done groundbreaking work on addiction to tanning beds and on patients’ adherence to their medication treatment regimens. Dr Feldman’s work in psoriasis led him to an interest in patient satisfaction. He created the www.DrScore.com doctor rating/patient satisfaction website. His research has been published in more than 1000 Medline-referenced articles.

Dr Feldman serves on the medical board of the National Psoriasis Foundation and has directed psoriasis education programs for the American Academy of Dermatology. He has given more than 700 invited lectures to dermatology groups and organizations around the world, including the Pan Arab Dermatology Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; the Iranian Society of Dermatology Meeting in Tehran, Iran; and the Pan Asian Dermatology Meeting in Seoul, South Korea. He also serves as the editor of the Journal of Dermatological Treatmenand the Journal of Dermatology & Dermatologic Surgery, as well as the chief medical editor of The Dermatologist.

Dr Feldman’s experiences in medicine have inspired him to try to see how others perceive things, leading to his book Compartments: How the Brightest, Best Trained, and Most Caring People Can Make Judgments That Are Completely & Utterly Wrong and his recent novella Bent Toward Justice.
