Richard F. Riedel, MD, is an associate professor of medicine with tenure in the Division of Medical Oncology at Duke University Medical Center and a member of the Duke Cancer Institute in Durham, NC. He additionally serves as the associate director of clinical research at the Duke Sarcoma Center, Duke Cancer Institute. Dr Riedel received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College (currently known as Sidney Kimmel Medical College) at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. His internal medicine residency, chief residency, and hematology-oncology fellowship training were all performed at Duke University Medical Center. 

Dr Riedel has clinical and research interests in identifying novel therapeutics for patients with soft tissue and bone sarcomas. He is an active participant in Sarcoma Alliance for Research through Collaboration, and he is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Connective Tissue Oncology Society, and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guideline committees for both soft tissue sarcoma and gastrointestinal stromal tumor. He additionally serves as co-chair of the ECOG-ACRIN Sarcoma Working Group and on the medical advisory board for the Sarcoma Foundation of America, and he is a past chair of the ASCO Education Section for sarcoma.
