Rami S. Komrokji, MD, is vice chair of the Department of Malignant Hematology and head of the Leukemia and MDS Section at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL. He is also a senior member of the Malignant Hematology and Experimental Therapeutics Program at Moffitt Cancer Center, and professor of medicine & oncologic sciences at the University of South Florida Health Morsani College of Medicine, also in Tampa. 

After earning his medical degree in 1996 from the Jordan University School of Medicine, Dr Komrokji completed an internship and residency at Case Western University, St. Vincent Program. He then completed a fellowship in hematology/oncology and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation at Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester.

Dr Komrokji is an expert in myeloid neoplasms, and he has led several clinical trials and has lectured worldwide. His work paved the way for the US Food and Drug Administration approval of luspatercept for myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and pending approval of pacritinib for myelofibrosis. 

He has authored or coauthored more than 280 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 20 book chapters, and more than 700 abstracts in hematologic malignancies. He served as member of the MDS Panel of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, and he is currently a member of the National Institutes of Health National MDS Natural History Study Steering Committee and the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation Board of Directors. He previously served as a member of the editorial board for Journal of Clinical Oncology. He is a peer reviewer for several medical journals, including Blood, the Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Leukemia.

Dr Komrokji’s research interests are in phase 1 and 2 clinical trials and in outcomes research in hematologic malignancies with a focus on myeloid neoplasms. His clinical interests are MDS, acute myeloid leukemia, and myeloproliferative neoplasms.
