Joseph A. Sparano, MD, FACP, is the Ezra M. Greenspan, MD Professor in Clinical Cancer Therapeutics, chief of the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, and deputy director of The Tisch Cancer Institute at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, NY. 

Dr Sparano is a medical oncologist whose research has focused on the clinical application of biomarkers in breast cancer and the developmental therapeutic approaches for breast cancer, lymphoma, and HIV-associated cancers. He currently serves as deputy chair of the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group and principal investigator and group chair of the AIDS Malignancy Consortium Joint Strategy, and he has received funding from the National Cancer Institute and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. 

He is a prior recipient of the Gianni Bonadonna Breast Cancer Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (2021), the William L. McGuire Memorial Lecture Award from the American Association for Cancer Research and the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (2019), the Charles G. Moertel Lectureship Award from the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology (2019), the 2017 President's Award from the Montefiore Health System, the Young Investigator Award from the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group (2001), and the Career Development Award from the American Cancer Society (1991).
