John Koreth, MBBS, DPhil

John Koreth, MBBS, DPhil, is a hematology-oncology attending physician, Blood and Marrow Transplantation, at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; an associate member at Brigham and Women’s Hospital; and a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is also the director of translational research, Stem Cell Transplantation Program, and the director of the Immune Toxicities Program at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. 

Dr Koreth is a graduate of the University of Delhi (currently known as Delhi University) in Delhi, India, and the University of Oxford in Oxford, England. He trained in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and in hematology-oncology at Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare. He completed post-doctoral research training with Drs Stuart Orkin (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute) and Sander van den Heuvel (Massachusetts General Hospital). 

His clinical and translational research seeks to optimize blood and marrow transplantation utilization in various hematologic malignancies, including multiple myeloma, acute myeloid leukemia, and myelodysplastic syndromes, and to improve outcomes in advanced/aggressive hematologic malignancies (with a special focus on immune modulation strategies for the control of graft-versus-host disease [GVHD], a major transplantation toxicity). His work on augmenting anti-inflammatory regulatory T cells also has implications beyond GVHD. 

Dr Koreth’s honors include a Rhodes Scholarship, a Claudia Adams Barr Award, a Dunkin' Donuts Rising Stars Award, an American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT) New Investigator Award, and a Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Scholars in Clinical Research Award. He is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the ASTCT.
